what is this game about?
| Pula has returned to her grandmother’s farm after struggling to find work in the city when she finished university. The once productive small farm is now dry and nearly barren. Pula’s name means rain, as she was born just before the first spring rains. With her birth, her family planted a umtiza tree, which would grow with her and remind her of her roots at the farm. But the rains have shifted and changed, and so too must the way of farming. Pula decides to help rejuvenate the farm, in whatever way she can. She might not know much about farming, but a little collective and traditional knowledge can go a long way. Pula & Roots is set in rural Eastern Cape, South Africa. It explores real world climate challenges faced by small holdings farmers. Pula & Roots is a text based narrative game where you play as Pula and help her make decisions to restore her grandmother’s farm and bring the community together. The game is an interactive fiction based on real-world scenarios and challenges faced by people in South Africa. |
